How to read us
Editorial standards
Headline Hangover is a show, not a newsroom, and it does not claim to be one. What it does claim is that you will always know which kind of statement you are hearing.
The four labels
Verified
Verified fact
Checked against a primary source before air. The source is in the episode notes.
Reported
Reported claim
Someone credible reported it and we have not independently confirmed it. We say who.
Analysis
Analysis
Our reading of what the facts add up to. Reasoning shown so you can reject it.
Opinion
Opinion
What we think. Stated as ours, never dressed up as a finding.
What we will not do
We will not manufacture outrage, conflict or humiliation to move a number. We will not treat every claim as equally credible. We will not exploit guests, callers or private people for content. We will not let a sponsor shape a conclusion without telling you, and we will not run a paid segment as though it were editorial.
We will not promise neutrality, and we will not promise you will agree with us or enjoy every conversation. We will not give legal, medical, financial or psychological advice. And we will not become the marketing arm of the other companies the hosts own; where a relationship is relevant, it is disclosed on air.
